BEHERIT "Engram" LP 16€
(Svart Records)
The comeback album of this Finnish black metal legend, spitting forth a mixture of the old primitivity, minimalism of the synth -period and even something new. New analog mastering, approved by Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance. Second vinyl edition on red vinyl. Heavy glossy gatefold cover and sturdy printed inner bag.

KATATONIA "Dance of December Souls" 2LP 19€
(Svart Records)
Having only previously been available on vinyl 17 years ago for a brief moment, a proper analog reissue of the starting point of Katatonia's career has been in high demand. After several months of meticulous preparation, Svart Records have come up with the definitive edition of this seminal album. The "Dance of December Souls" double vinyl includes both the original album and the "Jhva Elohim Meth" mini album, with all music carefully remastered for vinyl, resulting in sound that's much more dynamic and far less compressed than what the CD version has to offer. This is cold, analog Northern gothic metal at its absolute finest. The 2LP has thick gatefold covers, printed inner bags and two records on black vinyl.

REVEREND BIZARRE "In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend" 2LP 20€
(Svart Records)
Reverend Bizarre's debut album "In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend" is perhaps the most revered work in their entire output. Originally released in 2002 upon an unsuspecting world, the album has already became a doom metal milestone in mere eight years. To help its grim legacy grow, Svart Records has pressed "In the Rectory..." on vinyl. Aside from the 74 minutes of epic traditional doom metal on two black LP records, the vinyl release consists of thick gatefold covers stamped with copper foil and a large booklet with unreleased photos. The music has been remastered to get the most out of the dynamic analog medium.

RIPPIKOULU "Musta Seremonia" LP 16€
(Svart Records)
This album is one of the best kept secrets in the Finnish underground metal scene. It is also the very first death metal recording with lyrics spat out in the Finnish language. Rippikoulu began their musical endeavours back in the late eighties, and like so many of their contemporaries, evolved from primitive punk noise to death metal. However, while many bands played death metal with groovy riffing and overall headbanging attitude, Rippikoulu's choice of style was darker. Their downtuned metal is bleak and nearly unbearably heavy in its execution, dark and soul-searching in its themes, intertwining faster bursts of chaos with slow, doomy passages. Rippikoulu released the "Musta Seremonia" demo album on tape in 1993 and then disappeared. They never gained much popularity in their time, but their legacy has steadily grown in time. Countless metal fans worldwide have adored their shoddy bootleg copies of the "Musta Seremonia" tape - now the stars are finally right for a legitimate re-release. The album has been remastered from the original DAT master tape, cleaned up and amplified. Two separate masters were created, a louder, bass-heavy one for the CD and a more vintage sounding one for the vinyl edition. So, the new decade begins with the unleashing of this shadowy beast upon the planet. You have been warned. Black vinyl in gatefold sleeve. Limited to 400 copies.

VON TILL, STEVE "A Grave is a Grim Horse" LP 15€
(Svart Records)
Perhaps the history of the song is innate within us. At least that's what we might glean from Steve Von Till's third Neurot Recordings solo outing "A Grave is a Grim Horse". Intertwined with interpretations of songs by Nick Drake, Townes Van Zant, Mickey Newberry and Lyle Lovett, Von Till's powerful yet subtly graceful originals merge with a lexicon that manifests as something beyond signature, something beyond the concept of persona that popular culture has repeatedly sold us over the past 50 years. Where his previous releases showed reverence for folk music forms of the past, "A Grave is a Grim Horse" peers directly inward, drawing from this history of song and earnestly embracing the need we all share to etch our mark upon the artifacts that will ultimately survive us. Steve Von Till is most widely recognized as vocalist and guitarist in Bay Area heavy post-psychedelic punk legends Neurosis. But, the breadth of his talents and interests reaching far beyond that band's thunderous intensity have been well established over the course of related projects like the experimental offshoot Tribes of Neurot, psych-drone band Harvestman and acoustic guitar based solo releases "As the Crow Flies" (2000) and "If I Should Fall to the Field" (2002). Remastered black vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

VON TILL, STEVE "If I Should Fall to the Field" LP 16€
(Svart Records)
Von Till's first solo effort, "As the Crow Flies", proved that subtle, acoustic songs could sound equally as intense, droning and heavy as Neurosis. Now, shorn of such ironic novelty, Von Till shows a depth and breadth to his songwriting that makes the majestic melodies and crescendos of "If I Should Fall to the Field" flow like the bloodlines that connect us all throughout human history. Svart Records continues its mission to release Neurosis vocalist Steve Von Till's solo albums on vinyl. After last year's "A Grave is a Grim Horse" vinyl it is now time to unleash his earlier solo work "If I Should Fall to the Field". Like the previous LP release, it is warmly remastered for the analogue medium using the vintage lathe cut method and then wrapped in a thick, gorgeous gatefold jacket. Clear vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

XYSMA "First & Magical" LP 18€
(Svart Records)
Of all the bands born out of the Scandinavian extreme death metal explosion in the late eighties, Xysma was one of the most innovative. This is the sound of a death metal band pushing forward into uncharted territories. This is a limited, completely remastered vinyl edition of this groundbreaking 1993 album. It comes in thick laminated gatefold covers and includes a large booklet with previously unseen material. Black vinyl, limited to 300 copies.

DETRITIVORE "Pakt" CD 10€
(Lyderhorn Records)
Alternating between light and heavy, while being simultaneously beautiful and ugly, the Norwegian duo Detritivore manages to mix these elements on their debut LP, "Pakt". Essentially a concept album depicting disillusionment with religion and subsequent descent into darkness, the album is a harrowing experience of not quite drone, not quite noise, and not quite doom metal, but a true amalgamation of the three. "Pakt" is produced by Joakim Jensen, mastered by James Plotkin, and features mesmerizing illustrations by Justin Bartlett. Mini-gatefold CD.

ALL HAIL THE TRANSCENDING GHOST "s/t" CD 10€
(Cold Spring Records)
The debut album from All Hail the Transcending Ghost - a joint collaboration between Henrik Nordvargr Björkk (MZ.412, Toroidh, Folkstorm etc) and Tim Bertilsson (Fear Falls Burning, Switchblade). Together the Swedish legends have created arguably one of the most haunting drone-dark-ambient-industrial works in recent years, invoking the spirits of old Nordvargr, meets the sludge-doom vibe of Tim's hellish guitar. This has to be the most unsettling work from Nordvargr, as the man himself states "truly the most scary music I have recorded". An icy chill down your spine... a cold hand on your shoulder... you are never alone in the darkness.

BUZZOV·EN "Sore" CD 10€
(Roadrunner Records)
Opening with the repeated audio sample "welcome to violence" over a wash of rumbling white noise, occasional bass notes, and gunshot snare hits, "Sore" captures the mammoth drumming abilities of Ash Lee, Kirk's exceptionally painful pick-slides down his Les Paul, and the punishing, hardcore brutality of this band at their peak. Unfortunately, it was precisely the elements the band sang about that took them down. Heroin and years of physical abuse took their toll on the original incarnation of Buzzov.en, and Kirk was left holding the bag - quite literally - as the band imploded. Over the next few years, he would reassemble Buzzov.en numerous times with different lineups, some to great effect, some to quite the opposite, however, none with the same kind of viciousness as this one.

DOZELIMIT "Constructions of the Highest Architecture" CD 10€
(RAIG)
One thing's for sure - Dozelimit really love their delay pedals. There's hardly a moment on their debut album "Constructions of the Highest Architecture" where the Russian duo aren't bathing their haunting guitar lines and rumbling amp drones in delay, making this exercise in dark metallic dronecraft super spacey and dreamy. This disc features seven untitled tracks from Dozelimit, all slow, down-tuned guitar based soundscapes that combine crushing doomdirge heaviness, endless stretches of shimmering feedback, and buzzing industrial machine drones that often resembles a doomier Troum, or even the instrumental sludge/drone project Fulci. The opener layers gentle delay-flecked guitar strum over descending sheets of metallic drone and shimmer, the dark, cinematic guitar figures that slowly emerge from the gloom have an almost jazzy feel, the softer ambience merging with super-heavy ambient doomdrone and dark rumbling synths. The following track has more floating fragile guitar figures combining with melodious high-end drones to form echoing fragmented melodies that ripple through black space, hovering high above swirling murky seas of tape hiss and granular noise. The guitars move from slowly bending notes that form into a sort of deep-space blues into sheets of blackened tremelo and minimal ambient hum, and heavy rattling vibrations appear, as if from some leviathan engine grinding in the void. Most of the album is this mingling of gorgeous guitar ambience and heavy industrial throb, circular melodies and luminescent ambience stretched across space, the guitar notes decaying into darkness, mutated into strange swarms of high end chitter and nocturnal hum, swirling into clusters of percussive sounds into a kind of psychedelic blackened space music, like Cisfintum or Mauriozio Bianchi mixed with the guitarscapes of MGR. But the last two tracks drop the hammer, unleashing a black wave of crushing ambient doom riffage a la early Sunn O))), slow drifting slabs of monstrous down tuned heaviness and blackened tremolo riffing slathered in droning electronics, weird glitchy noise, and sweeps of oscillator tones that could have been lifted from a Delia Derbyshire score, sculpted into bleak stuttering doomscapes.

ENDNAME "Dreams of a Cyclops" CD 10€
(RIAG)
The first album from this Moscow-based instrumental space-metal group has the heavy prog feel but it's injected into a super heavy sludge/doom weightiness that often sounds like a kind of stately prog-doom. These guys have been compared to Pelican a bit, and there's definitely some of that sound going on here, but EndName add a bunch of their own eccentric sounds and turn it into something uniquely theirs, a mix of instrumental King Crimson -influenced prog, winding doom riffing, space rock atmospherics and quirky electronic soundscaping that puts an emphasis on heavy, hypnotic grooves, incorporating lots of synthesizer, Frippy guitar work, tribal percussion and even didgeridoo into their odd art-metal. The proggy math-doom workout of opener "Inception" goes from stuttering Meshuggah -like riffage and cascading sheets of processed guitar into a repetitious, sinister doom metal riff driven by a lurching angular rhythm and constant harmonic squeals. "North" is slow pounding doom metal mixed with symphonic synth strings and pounding industrial clang, a lumbering cinematic doom instrumental that opens up into weirdly sunny melodic passages, soaring FX-heavy guitar solos, and some baroque Ren Faire keyboards towards the end that makes this sound like some weird proggy 80's doom. The fourteen minute "Eclipse" has Floydian guitar atmospherics flowing into an epic 80's metal/cop show groove with propulsive drums and melodic metallic riffing, a killer hook at the center of it, breaking of into tribal hand-drum percussion and atmospheric droning; halfway into it, the track starts to sound like older Pelican jamming with a drum circle before slipping back into that killer quasi-disco groove, then gets all spacey at the end with odd countrified guitars and more hand percussion. Heavy stop-start riffing dominates "Beyond the Scope" with an almost Helmet / Gore style groove, heavy angular sludge rock with creepy spacey lead guitar. "Dissolution" opens with delayed didgeridoo drones and spacey synth drift, a deep cosmic ambience streaked with backwards guitar, chimes, buried electronic pulse, and synth strings, a total krautrock-inspired dronescape a la Tangerine Dream / Klaus Schulze, an eerie descending melody gradually returning to the ominous didgeridoo buzz. And closer "Dissociation" returns to the massive processed slabs of progged out sludge metal with another lumbering stop/start riff and more sheets of FX-heavy guitar, crushing plodding drone-riffage and swirling cosmic synths merging into a slow and propulsive groove, the drums a mechanical tick-tock pulse, riffs constantly changing and chugging, the drums blasting off into volleys of ferocious double bass later on, joined by percussive clang and crashing cymbals, mutating into a frenzy of spaced out thrash metal riffing at the very end.

MOUNTAIN OF JUDGEMENT "s/t" CD 10€
(RAIG)
The intro to the opening song "Neptunes Reign" lays it all out, with sweeping nebulous synths soaring over crushing stoned sludge metal, the riffs huge and droning, the drummer bashing out slow-motion elephantine beats, the zoned-out vocals sung in a chant-like cadence. If it sounds like these guys are evoking a heavy Sleep vibe, you'd be correct. Much of this disc reminds me of early Sleep, and fans of the stoner metal gods will probably dig Mountain of Judgement's take on this sound. This is much more spacey and acid-fried, though; while the pounding gooey lava-lamp metal grinds through massive Sabbathian depths, those synthesizers are way out in front, splattering the sludge with endless black hole drones, whooshing lift-off fx, and deep-space oscillations. These guys wear their love for classic 70's space rock proudly on their sleeves, particularly drawing from the music of Hawkwind and Ash Ra. Throughout the disc, the metal will often drift away and be replaced by long stretches of moody psychedelic jamming and swathes of pure fx freakery, and when the crushing Sab-riffage re-emerges, it's joined with soaring clean vocals (that can give this a classic heavy metal vibe) and some killer wailing psych-guitar freakouts. And the song "Globule" is a standout, a crushing, surprisingly catchy chunk of space-pop-sludge. And much like how U.S. Christmas sometimes blends their Southern rock influences into their driving space rock, there's a bit of Southern booziness that can be heard in Mountain of Judgement's sound, too. You can definitely hear it on the last track "Magic Eye", where, for just a second, the band enters a zone where they sound remarkably like Electric Wizard covering something by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their hefty psych-doom owes a lot to their influences, but their combination of kosimiche freakout and narcotized doom is one of the better ones that I've heard. It's like hearing Sleep jamming with Dik Mik and Klaus Schulze, or Electric Wizard with the mysticism and space rock worship cranked to the max and the darkness turned down a bit, their controls set for some distant interstellar destiny instead of black oblivion. Recommended to fans of the aforementioned bands looking for their next fix of blasted drug-sludge.

TENHORNEDBEAST "Hunts & Wars" CD 10€
(Cold Spring Records)
TenHornedBeast’s third album for Cold Spring Records is titled “Hunts & Wars”. Recorded over a three year period from 2006 to 2009 this album introduces subtle changes to the established TenHornedBeast sound with shorter delicate interludes separating longer tracks that rage with heavy distortion and doom-drone barbarism. “Hunts & Wars” progresses the established TenHornedBeast sound using leaden, sub-tuned bass guitar to create rhythms and riffs that dominate a battlefield of vast ritual percussion and droning walls of electric dissonance, creating epic and expansive textures that by turns burn with frost and freeze with fire. Heavily influenced by the oneiric visions of Robert E Howard and Lord Dunsany. ”Hunts & Wars” seeks to evoke the elemental, anti-modern fantasias of these writers and is presented in a lavish digipak designed by noted American graphic designer Kevin Yuen (Sunn O))), Wolves in the Throne Room) to its full grotesque glory. The days have come when the steel will rule. Titans arise, monuments fall. Ballads of victory and defeat are sung aloud as from the highest steps we are swept on to the eternal Hunts and Wars.

VIR' "Horna" CD 10€
(Mosquito Records/RAIG)
A mixture of shimmering krautrock and pulverizing doom-drone, starting off with a gorgeous black field of sparkling melodic chimes and pulsating synths buried under layers of rumbling drone, very reminiscent of Tangerine Dream and Cluster but bathed in endless shadows, before moving into the crushing thirteen minute second track. Here the band moves into punishing waves of amplifier sludge and static distorted chords drifting through space, like Black Boned Angel or Sunn O))) moving through jet-black expanses of Teutonic space music, grinding guitar drone smeared in caustic noise and deep bass blasts, wheezing synths streaking overhead, distant mechanical rhythms and robotic tribal beats appearing through the murk. The sound is massive, and regardless of how heavy this becomes, there is always that classic kosmiche music sound underneath it all, making this much more than just another slab of rumbling guitar-drone exploration. The third track layers multiple strummed guitars all playing a simple two-chord riff with more gurgling electronics and crackling distortion while a frantic male voice shrieks in Russian over top, and the end result sounds like a weird sort of ambient power-electronics before it moves into a seven minite stretch of massively low-end guitar-feedback undulations and metallic scrapings. The last two tracks explore similiarly weird territory, all revolving around immense oceans of distorted guitar drone that are populated by blasts of harsh noise and menacing Prurient-style high-end feedback abuse, blissed out krautrock ambience, distant free-jazz horns, densely layered collages of voice recordings, thunderous sheet-metal reverberations, weird electronic sounds, fragments of sampled dance-pop music creeping through the filth, and other random sound events floating through VIR's monstrous dronemetal galaxies... Weird, nightmarish droneological heaviness for sure, but it totally works, invoking all kinds of apocalyptic hallucinations through these stretched out slabs of black murmur.

WICKED KING WICKER "God is Busy... Save Yourself" CD 10€
(Cold Spring Records)
Wicked King Wicker is pure doom. Their brand of guttural expression strips away the rock'n'roll base and leaves nothing for the listener than the caustic reality of the darkest side of life. It is heavy, barbaric and void of hope. Wicked King Wicker has taken the power of doom metal and added noise to mix to make its point. “God Is Busy… Save Yourself” is their 6th album, and their first released outside of the U.S. Wicked King Wicker is unique, and their extreme doom stands alone as the heaviest, most brutal doom imaginable and it may take you places you don’t want to go.

DANISHMENDT "Un Passé Aride" CD 10€
(Cold Void Emanations/Odio Sonoro/Architect of Noise)
To ignite thirst, through enthroning blackscapes and suffocating, hypnotic noise. While such a description might seem nebulous, it depicts quite accurately the atmospheres created by this French ensemble. Danishmendt crafts ambience like no other band, and if their scope can be reduced to a few words (such as black metal, doom, noise...), no genre seems to fit them, and they seem to fit none. Quite content about it, the five lurkers evolve between borders in a world of their own. “Un Passé Aride” furthers their journey into obsidian fields and post-apocalyptic dull cities, through seven brooding and crushing episodes. “Un Passé Aride” evokes thirst, and a bleak horizon. Digipak.

SARCOFAGUS "Live in Studio 1979" LP 18€
(Svart Records)
These are the long-lost first recordings of the grandfather of Finnish Heavy Metal. This tape was made in Pan Studio, Helsinki, Finland, during a single recording session in May 1979 and buried in time soon after. Lately the tape was rediscovered and is now available on limited high quality vinyl, as it should be! These early tracks are a brilliant document of the birth of Sarcofagus - the music has its roots in blues and progressive rock, as the band was still searching for its distinctive heavy metal style. Finnish national radio played some of these songs, which then led to a record deal and the rest is heavy metal history. Beautifully remastered on 140 gram clear vinyl! 350 gram heavy rough gatefold covers plus a large 16 page booklet with liner notes and unseen photographs!

FALL OF EFRAFA "Inlé" CD 12€
(Denovali/Halo of Flies/Alerta Antifascista/Sound Devastation Records)
The long awaited final chapter of the "The Warren of Snares" trilogy, Fall Of Efrafa conclude their mythological tale of an uprising against an oppressive regime, based upon an interpretation of the classic novel "Watership Down" by Richard Adams. Cardboard gatefold cover + 8 page inlay.

GRUEL "s/t" CD 10€
(Flat Earth Records/At War with False Noise)
CD issue of this instant classic of avant-sludge. This is the only recording Gruel made, or will ever make since they announced their recent split, and what a testament it is! Like The Melvins playing King Crimson's "Red" album, this is at both theatrical, beautifully composed, and troglodyte-ianly heavy. Utterly immersive, each passage of quiet atmospherics is shattered by a barrage of brilliant repetitious riffing. Four 15 minute-long songs and it's totally captivating from start to finish. Will definitely be right up the alleys of those into Melvins, Swans, Grief, Throbbing Gristle, Goblin, Harvey Milk etc. 500 copies in a stickered PVC sleeve, with the disc wrapped in a big double-sided full colour poster.

OMEGA MASSIF "Geisterstadt / Kalt" 2CD 15€
(Denovali Records)
The sounds of this album may remind you of the good old records of Pelican and Isis, but Omega Massif go much further. The spiralling melodies overlaying the rolling riffs and pummeling basses make the songs of "Geisterstadt" sound celestial and infernal at the same time. The diversity and ingenuity of Omega Massif is maybe best seen in the 10 minute monster "Nebelwand"- starting with fragile drums and melodies, the tension slowly increases by including an accordion, followed by short outbursts of massive sound walls. However, Omega Massif are not in a hurry, and so it takes 6 minutes until the powerful sound storms interweaved with the elevated melodies typical for the band finally take the lead and dominate the song until the end. This is not the usual silent start/big climax thing well-known from postrock records - this is one of the best instrumental/ metal/doomcore records in the past years! And remember that this is only Omega Massif's debut, one can only vaguely guess what is to be expected in the future. Comes in heavy triple gatefold cardboard covers and includes the demo "Kalt" as a second bonus CD!

BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS "s/t" LP 12€
(Vendetta Records)
Doom can be slow and low and still rock. Take B.Son for example, whose particular brand of doomic energy is drawn from bands like Harvey Milk, Karp, The Melvins, godheadSilo, more a sort of downtuned propulsive sludge with doom elements, than pure doom. But goddamn if it isn't just as brutal and heck, doomy... Thick ropy buzz bass, pounding destructo drums, throaty howls, grinding guitars, all lurching and swaying like some drugged and demented super rock doom beast, all filtered through a bit of grinding screamo and some buzzed out metallic blackness. There are moments of blisssed out post rockiness, and weird laid back grooves, stretched out near ambience and dense little mathy jams, but those moments just serve to keep the doomed sludge rock fury from becoming too much. Mastered by James Plotkin. Limited edition.

CASKETS OPEN "But You Rule" LP 12€

"But You Rule" the is one of the doom full-length's of the year! At least it is the freshest injection to the genre for a long time. Helsinki's Caskets Open develop further the amazing demo and distill their own distinctive blend of cold, extremely violent but still subtle warm sound on this debut LP. Razorsharp edges in sound and morbid, socially aware lyrics. A clicheless mix of drunken, anti-clerical and sleazy doom with a hint of post-punk, imagine Joy Division fucking roughly with St. Vitus on a dark night in a graveyard. Limited edition.

They did it again. They again wrote a heavier, better, darker full lenght than the last time and in this context they enhanced their unique, incomparable sound with new elements like samples and they experimented for the first time with guest musicians (from Les Fragments de la Nuit) plus new instruments like piano and strings. Celeste with piano and strings? Yes! And it fits amazingly. Of course they also again created a new level of denseness in their sound - definitely one of the best and most unique metalbands of today. Don't pass up on (one of) the heaviest albums of the year! Color vinyl in beautiful gatefold sleeve. Limited edition.

HEIRS "Fowl" LP 15€
(Denovali Records)
Upon returning to Melbourne after 67 shows across Europe and Japan, Heirs commenced work on their second album, "Fowl". With the baton of core song-writing being handed from drummer Damian Coward to guitarist, Brent Stegeman, Heirs turned their attention toward their electronic underbelly, honing in on the industrial vapour and blackened ambience that permeated their debut, "Alchera", distilling the underlying sense of melody with an arresting sense of dread. "Fowl" displays a deliberate shift towards a broader sonic palette, enabling the band to incorporate disparate inuences and approaches to create a sound that is uniquely their own. From wheezing blasts of industrial steam to weeping passages of gothic suspense, "Fowl" is a fully realised analysis of the repugnant. Its pugilistic rhythmic foundation, reverb soaked guitars, crackling electronics and deadpan dark-wave meditation create an abstract dronescape of industrial dirge and metallic ambience coalesced into an ambitious whole. For fans of Swans, Controlled Bleeding, HTRK, Pelican, Godflesh and Nadja. Limited edition.

KODIAK / NADJA Split LP 15€
(Denovali Records)
In doom and drone, genres where much of the stuff can sound remarkably similar, here is a band that stands apart as a beacon. Nadja have the deep drones and all the darkness of doom, but also have intricate melodies that permeate their long dirges...What's commendable about Nadja is the alchemical experimentation with the genres resulting in a unique concoction of doom metal, drone, shoegazer layering, and avant-rock explorations. Kodiak is not a band that you just play for enjoyment; it needs time and attention, but when it locks you in its slowly developing, pachyderm-paced punishing groove, Kodiak has a lot to offer, proving that monotony and monolithic heaviness are enough to make great songs, if you know how. Kodiak definitely know it. Thick gatefold covers and 180g heavyweight vinyl. Limited edition.

KYLESA "Static Tensions" LP 12€
(La Familia Releases)
For fans of Baroness, Cult Of Luna, Isis and Mastodon. "Static Tensions" also sees Kylesa further progressing with their songwriting, both in terms of the psychedelia suggested on the "Time Will Fuse..." LP and the sheer brute force and memorable structures they’ve become known for over the course of their 3 albums, split albums and EPs. The at times blackened death metal feel of "Said And Done" and the piano-laced, middle-eastern tinged "Running Red" highlight this diversity of sound, yet at all times it remains distinctly Kylesa. The percussion heavy "Unknown Awareness" is perhaps the most emotionally heavy tune the band has ever written. Comes with 8 page LP size booklet!

OMEGA MASSIF "Geisterstadt" LP 15€
Finally repressed, with new artwork and a deluxe packaging! Heavy 180g vinyl, heavy gatefold covers, and heavy printed inner sleeves. Limited edition.

SAW THROAT "Inde$troy" LP 12€
(Skuld Releases/Epistrophy Recording)
In 1989 this project was born and executed by members of Doom, Sore Throat and an unknown guy called Hammy - a killer one song (divided into chapters though) concept album was the result. Passionate, epic and pounding crust that is heavily influenced by bands like Amebix, Antisect, Axegrinder.... Cool riffage, pounding drums, keyboards and rough vocals are the trademark of their mostly midtempo anarchocrust sound. The allover topic of the album is the man-made destruction of our planet delivered in an urgent way, emphasized by the apocalyptic artwork of Steve Hutton. Re-issue comes in a nicely put together gatefold + linernotes by the "singer".

MR. PETER HAYDEN "Faster than Speed (or Violating Special Relativity)" CD 10€
(Winter Records/Post-RBMM)
In the album notes for Mr Peter Hayden's "Faster than Speed" album it states "The songs deal with time" and time is exactly what you need to fully appreciate the spacious, lush sounds that are projected over two tracks that both have playing times of over 30 minutes each. Using sounds created by guitars, bass, drums, percussion and finished with synthesizers, piano, wind instruments and various acoustic elements. The soundscapes here are very cinematic as styles from doom metal, drone, psychedelia, space rock to experimental prog-rock are interwoven into an endless stream of ambient, flowing hypnotic music. It's pure music made for meditative listening as there is no catchy hooks, no riffs to make you grab your air-guitar and while it has certain melodic segments, the emphasis is on slow-building atmospherics. Special fold out cover.

Formed in Chicago in 2005, the band has worked hard, creating five previous albums. ALKERDEEL "De Speenzalvinge" CD 10€
(At War with False Noise/Universal Tongue)
First album proper from the heaviest band in Belgium, featuring Mories from Gnaw Their Tongues. Three tracks that maintain the same brutal mixture of pulsing low-end bass assault and fast, almost d-beat rhythms, all held together by totally entrancing, riffs, unrelentingly repetitive and totally driving. The difference this time is the production: gone is the necro sound of "Luizig" and in is a more fluid, tight production. The sound may be different but the intent is the same, and the three (long!) tracks here are Alkerdeel's most prophetic statement yet. The best band of their kind going right now, essential listening. 500 copies in silkscreened black-on-black crucifix sleeves in a heavy PVC sleeve.

HALO "Degree Zero Point of Implosion" LP 16€

Australian duo Skye Klein and Robert Allen, originally self-released this on Embryo Recordings & mp3.com in 2000 as a limited run CDr. This is the first vinyl issue of this rare and classic masterpiece of industrial doom noise. Often overlooked in the metal community for being too industrial, and overlooked by the industrial / noise community for being too metal. Hopefully this new reissue will expose a new generation of noisy metal fans to Halo's unusual style of doom riffs and heavy percussion, flavored with menacing machine drones and dark electronics... Plus frightening shouted vocals, this LP creates a gloomy and hopeless portrait of a bleak post-industrial world. EIBON "Entering Darkness" CD 10€
(Aesthetic Death)
"Entering Darkness" is the absolutely superb debut full-length from the French act Eibon. Expect six tracks that add up to an hour's worth of crushing, pulsing doom – loaded with everything from your standard doses of slow, pounding power chords and oppressively thick basslines to droning melodies; sparse clean passages; and forceful vocal growls/snarls that really carry some great texture (to the point where they actually lend a bit of a blackened vibe to the compositions from time to time). All of this is occasionally accented by well-placed samples and efficiently blended ambient noise textures, not to mention some shockingly hard-hitting and emotional moments where surging melodies and dissonant chord phrasings come together to create some of the finest atmospheric doom encountered in quite some time. Once more the recording is great, too. Devastatingly heavy, super dense, but still clear enough to let you get a grip on all of the subtle intricacies that are scattered around the core. Stylish hardcover digisleeve.

BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS "Microbarome Meetings" CD 10€

'Nexus' is the centre of something, or a connection, as any dictionary will tell you. Appropriately for Black Shape of Nexus, as the suffocating heaviness of their music functions either way – they can be the centre of your worst nightmares or the connection to all those dark places where you don't ever want to go. Or both. Pummelling you with painfully slow doom and finishing you off with acrid, harsh drones, B.SoN give down-tempo a whole new meaning. Their discography so far also shows a band not afraid to step outside the established norms, following the staggering doom of the self-titled 2007 debut with a limited-edition drone album, the immensely scary "Microbarome Meetings". FLESHPRESS "No Return" MCD 6€
(Kult of Nihilow)
One of two recent EPs released by the Finnish sludgelords Fleshpress, "No Return" is a nightmare of a million eyes, an outburst of misanthropic black energy lashing out at the world surrounding them. Featuring two long tracks, the disc comes in at around twenty two minutes, but every second is weighed down with some of the heaviest, most torturous psychedelic doom you could ask for. The first song is called "Dead End Life Crawling Thru Shit and Blood Soul Burning" and isn't subtle about what sort of mood they're in; a slow, determined drum plod opens this joined by a lumbering bass line and soft delayed guitar forming into dark hovering chords, and it's quite minimal and somber at first. As ululating electronic cries and the sound of sparking circuitry drifts in from afar, it begins to blossom into ominous slow motion black doom, coming together into a saurian dirge as the guitar gets heavier, the bass rises to the fore, until the music suddenly lurches into a monstrous blown-out dirge, a crushing mid-tempo groove surrounded by those strange electronic noises and psychedelic fx. Deep chanting vocals show up towards the end, right before the song bursts without warning into fast paced crusty thrash, ending the song in an uproar of grinding Disrupt-esque thrash. The arcane "Spiral Filter Forcing You Down to Black Pyramid" starts with a watery, flanged guitar before dropping into the rhythmically crushing demon-boogie, a sort of swinging doomcrust of putrid snarling vokills, angular Southern sludge riffage and swampy, bloozy soloing that winds its way through the almost the entire song. Later on, it dissipates into pure cosmic whoosh, a long stretch of space noise and swirling black hole fx with just the fading pulse of the drums and bass keeping it from completely drifting into the abyss, then re-emerges as a pounding tribal metal outro at the end. Grisly, human-hating psych sludge.

FLESHPRESS "Rebuild-Crumble" MCD 6€
(Kult of Nihilow)
Something of a concept EP concerned with the act of natural creation and the law of entropy as it applies to the ephemeral state of humankind's achievements, "Rebuild/Crumble" is one of two great Eps that have come out recently from the mighty Fleshpress, those Finnish sludgelords who poison their grueling, grinding slow motion heaviness with a terminally hateful worldview and some interesting psychedelic elements. Clocking in at just under twenty minutes, this two song disc might be on the short side, but it's unrelenting in it's skull-crushing heaviness. "Rebuild" opens with looped backwards sound and airy room hiss, a strange environmental ambience that becomes filled with swells of feedback that converge into a moody post-rock instrumental. Twangy clean guitar ripples over shuffling slow-paced drums, and for a moment, Fleshpress seem to be channeling the brooding slowcore of Codeine. Then, out of nowhere they kick into a lurching crusty assault, snarling sludge that abruptly shifts gears and slows down into even more sluggish depths of heaviness before grinding back into the droning sludge. In response, "Crumble" layers slow pounding toms, mysterious scraping sounds and percussive clanking in an unsettling abstract intro; an ominous guitar melody creeps in, again forming into sinister slowcore, but slowly building into another blast of snarling apocalyptic sludge, and this time when the band peaks into the crushing riffs and thunder of tribal drumming, it has this Amebix / Neurosis-like vibe, all bleakly apocalyptic till they suddenly drop out at the end, with just a dark, ominous piano minor key melody hovering in the blackness. Packaged in a card sleeve with metallic silver printing.

SKULLFLOWER "Village Sorting" 7" 5€

A classic release from 1995 by this highly influential British outfit. Two tracks of Skullflower's trademark feedback drenched guitars and crushing rhythm spiced up with Tim Hodgkinson's (God, The Lowest Note etc.) saxophone. Black vinyl in black/white sleeve.

SLUGHOG "Hangman/Hanker" 7" 5€
(Self Abuse Records/Pummelcore)
Slughog was a Boston based noise-rawk band that played their first show in January of 1991 and their last in May of 1999. In between they recorded two full length records, several 7" singles, a handful of compilation tracks and played piles of shows to crowds ranging from the immense to the non-existent across the U.S. This 7" was released in 1994 and captures the power that made them underground faves of the Boston music scene. Mixing hammering primal rythyms, distortion-fueled power riffs and a hearty dose of good ole-fashioned "freakout". Black vinyl in colour sleeve including a mini-sized poster. Limited edition of 1000 copies.

FLOOR "Sight & Seen" 2xDVD 16€
(Chunklet)
After years of toiling away in obscurity, followed by years of escalating interest during their hiatus, the legendary Florida band Floor reunited for a handful of shows in April 2010. Three different drummers. Three different sets. Over two hours of material spanning their early dirgey/noise singles to their landmark psych/drone/pop self-titled masterpiece. Filmed over two nights at the EARL in Atlanta, Georgia, "Sight & Seen" is truly something that needs to be seen to be believed. A multi-camera performance coupled with professionally recorded and mixed audio, "Sight & Seen" is an enveloping, droning wall of guitars. Floor's two guitarists, Anthony Vialon and Steve Brooks (of Torche fame), spend over two hours on stage with their various drummers. Their three drummers, Betty, Jeff and Henry, rotate through the band's lineup: crashing through their early singles, smoking the viewer with their mid-period haze and ending with the cathartic and anthemic final album.

Disc #1 of "Sight & Seen" also includes a 20 minute featurette that documents the band's history with never-before-seen live footage, photography and interviews.

Disc #2 is intended lure in both massive fans and completists alike. A data disc (which means you pop it in your computer), it includes:
- high quality audio files of both Atlanta shows (not just the one shown on disc #1)
- the complete and edited film of Floor that ended up on the cutting room floor (which clocks in at over 2 hours of video)

And in addition to this, the band has opened up their video vaults to include over an hour of archival footage spanning Floor's career from 1993 at Churchill's in Miami to their final shows in 2002.

"Sight & Seen" is housed in an elaborate package which was initially used on Chunklet's landmark "Anthem" 2xDVD release by Harvey Milk in 2006. "Sight & Seen" is a one-time release of 700 never to be reissued.

HEBOSAGIL / TWO BEATS OFF Split 7" 6€
(Psychedelica Records/Verdura Records/Posion Idea Records)
Seriously, this one is a monster. Super intense ass-kicking by both bands. Hebosagil has a gigantic sludge/metal/hardcore sound with loads of potential for headbanging and fist-shaking. And what about Two Beats Off then? Well, overwhelmingly energetic noisy hardcore punk that has a charming messy edge into it. Black vinyl. 500 copies.

HUMID "s/t" 7" 5€
(Suggestion Records/Dunkel Prod.)
Apparently the only release from the Norwegian psychedelic noise rock band Humid, this 7" dates back to 1996. Three tracks packed with jangly post-punkish reverb, dirty and gritty guitars of noise rock with a twist of psychedelic and spacey atmosphere. Full colour sleeve, blue vinyl, limited edition of 1000 copies.

MERCURY 4°F "Phased" LP 12€
(Suggestion Records)
Mercury 4°F were a Swiss noise rock/space punk band in the mid-90s who released a handful of 7" and 10" vinyls (on such classic labels as Bovine Records etc.) and "Phased" is their only full-length album as well as their final record, released in 1997. Definitely a varied mix of styles here, from noise rock to punkish space rock to stoner rock, such names as Big Black, F/i and Head of David have been thrown as comparisons, but that's only a part of the deal. Black vinyl. Limited edition of 600 copies.

SPLINTERED "Moraine" LP 12€
(Suggestion Records/No Risk No Fun Records)
The hugely prolific U.K. act Splintered finally submerge themselves in new wave ambience as the opening side of this one tracked LP kicks in. A moog floats around the background while small machines clatter away and a piano's keys are slowly struck in a fairly random manner. Eventually a guitar shows it's ugly face pummelling at the same hypnotic riff as the drums start to crack. The noises are still knocking about all over the place while you're trying to make out some deeply buried and delayed vocals. This same riff slowly builds in momentum until it eventually outruns itself and we're left with the same drone and clatter from where we came in. Side two stays with the guitars and drums, swirling the noise around with no remorse. Black vinyl, limited edition of 600 copies.

SPLINTERED "Smokescreen" 7" 5€
(Suggestion Records)
Another great release from this British experimental noise rock outfit, this 7" dating back to 1996. One side-long track and four shorter flipside tracks of the hypnotically percussive, lo-fi droning, experimental guitar feedback and riff grit that has always made Splintered so appealing. Full colour sleeve, blue vinyl, limited edition of 1000 copies.

THE AUSTRASIAN GOAT "Stains of Resignation" CD 10€
(Music Fear Satan)
Founded four years ago and after a bunch of ep's, splits and compilation records, here's finally the second full lenght by The Austrasian Goat, a one-man band project lead by Julien Louvet. After one year of work, this record is constructed from 9 pieces, ranging between furious black metal, atmospheric funeral doom and folk ballads. Surely his best and most mature work thus far. Among the guest appearances on this album is Jarboe (Swans) on "Voice of Aenima". The CD edition is limited to 1000 copies.

CLOACA "Lassitude" CD 10€
(Lone Vigil Recordings)
"Lassitude" is the very first release from the just launched UK label Lone Vigil, and is the debut of black industrial post metal doomlords Cloaca. Both the label and the band are fronted by Chris Naughton, he of doom/sludge masters Atavist and neo pagan black metallers Winterfylleth, but Cloaca is a whole different beast than either of those two outfits, and while most descriptions peg Cloaca as ‘experimental industrial doom’, that might be a bit misleading. It might have you picturing a churning avant Godflesh or some sort of machinelike downtuned Swans, when in fact, the sound of Cloaca is much more organic, and much closer to the slow build post metal of groups like Pelican, Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Snowblood, and Isis, the guitars lush and warm, the songs sprawling epics, with spiralling melodies, and dense tribal drumming, brooding and majestic, like a blackened Godspeed, building to explosive howled churning ultra metal blow outs, that transform into roiling chugging grooves, heavy and motorik and mesmerizing. The songs spend much of their time drifting dreamily, spidery guitar melodies draped over loping post rock rhythms, and when they do get heavy, it’s not always explosive crescendos, the band can lock into a riff and ride it out like some sort of black doom post metal Hawkwind, extended psychedelic cosmic metal jams that destroy, heaving hypnotically, thick sonic swells that churn and roil and eventually do explode into some serious heaviness, but it’s not just big chords there either, the band get super dense and complex, start stop rhythms, mathy arrangements, thick and convoluted and so so heavy. Throughout the record, Cloaca deftly flit from moody drift to soaring majesty, to metallic crush, wrapping impossibly hooky melodies and strange disembodied sampled voices around thick slabs of metallic hypnorock, a sound that’s definitely hard to make your own, but these guys have definitely staked their claim on this chunk of epic brooding heaviness. Definitely essential listening for fans of Rosetta, Baroness, The Body, Grails, The Ocean, Angel Eyes, Tides, Souvenir’s Young America, Mouth of the Architect, Irepress, Indian, Conifer and other post metal alchemists…

Finnish veterans of funeral doom! Skepticism's debut album "Stormcrowfleet" is huge, like an impressive vast monument. All songs move incredibly slow and create a very dark and depressive feeling that is beyond anything you've ever imagined. Tragic and epic doom for souls that weep for the darkest doom and funeral marches! This is the epitome of tragedy!

SKEPTICISM "Ethere" MCD 8€
(Red Stream)
On "Ethere", Skepticism display three lengthy tracks of primitive funeral doom. "Ethere" could be viewed as a beneficial factor when entering total depression. Listening to Skepticism is like being surrounded by fog and darkness. This obscure release, first released in 1997, has yet again been re-issued by Red Stream.

SKEPTICISM "Aes" MCD 8€
(Red Stream)
"Aes" reached uncharted melodies and the music is bludgeoningly heavy and brutal for the amount of heart crushing feelings it brings with each listening. Skepticism is a respected being by an open minded group of elite funeral doom people that will very much be attracted to the appeal of this unique release. Innovative use of clear paper packaging and obscure layout make this pleasurable to your eyes as well as ears and mind.

HEY COLOSSUS / FIELD BOSS Split 7" 6€
(At War with False Noise/Black Horizons/Crucificados Pelo Sistema)
Great split from two of the UK's most exciting heavy bands, perfectly complimenting one another! Hey Colossus don't do things straight, and what we have here is a slo-mo cover of Andre Williams' "Jailbait", battered into submission by HC's trademark downbeat dirge. The blues on downers. Field Boss are bloody brilliant. The band previously known as Tractor have been knocking around for a few years but this is their first "proper" release. It reminds me a lot of early Unsane; they've got that Am Rep sound down to an absolute tee, really thick guitars, monotonous, hollowed-out drum sound and in-the-red vocals pushed down in the mix. One might hear the first Fudge Tunnel record (surely one of the most overlooked albums ever?!) in there as well. "I got a headache on my birthday". Fits it perfectly, brilliant! 300 copies on heavy black vinyl. Three-panel screen-printed cover, metallic ink.

RAMESSES "Take the Curse" 2LP 20€
(At War with False Noise)
At last! The second full-length from the masters of psychedelic horror doom is released on the one true audio format! This is the most focused and direct Ramesses record yet: more tight and less sprawling than previous efforts, this is all about the riffs. Each song is a total bad acid trip of lysergic doom, but the arrangements are completely tight and more immediate than before. There's a total 70s Hammer/Euro cine vibe going on throughout, lots of great samples...makes you want to be on the set of The Dunwich Horror or something! Definitely the most fully-realised document of Ramesses' vision thus far. Limited to 400 copies. Double album on 180g black vinyl. Comes in a gatefold sleeve with metallic ink and spot UV varnish, die cut on the front and the back to allow the printed heavy inner sleeves to shine through, as well as a 10"x10" insert.
